You got braces
Now that you have started orthodontic treatment, here are a few hints to help get you through the first several days with a minimum of discomfort.

Cooperation
Success of treatment depends on cooperation between you and the doctor and staff. Wear the appliances as directed. Avoid the foods that can be damaging and handle emergencies promptly. Always be conscientious and responsible toward your treatment. Quick successful results depend on you, too.
It is very important you keep your teeth and appliances clean. At least twice a day, spend a few moments with a mirror checking the appliances to make sure they are thoroughly clean and in good shape.
Always smile and be proud of your appliances. After all, it shows the world that you take very good care or yourself.
General Soreness
There might be general soreness in the mouth. This can be relieved by with warm salt-water mouthwash.
Dissolve one teaspoonful or salt in 8 oz. in warm water and rinse your mouth vigorously.
If the tenderness is severe, use aspirin or whatever you normally take for headache or similar pains.
Soreness should end by third or fourth day.
Eating
Be careful to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat. Faithfully follow our instructions on food to avoid. For the first day or so, soft foods will be more appropriate. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw plus any other specific foods we find that cause problems.

Absolutely no:
Gum: unless Dr. Kai has said you can start chewing it.
Sticky Foods: Caramels, starburst, milk duds, sugar daddies, tootsie rolls, gummy bears, now & later, taffy, licorice.
